Dapo Awotunde
Joint Convener, Generation Next
Dapo Awotunde is a Chartered Certified Accountant, public sector finance leader, mentor and community leader. His experience brings together financial stewardship, public service and Christian leadership, with a commitment to helping young people develop the character, confidence and practical skills to lead purposeful lives.
Dapo has held senior finance roles across UK public sector organisations, including the West Midlands Combined Authority and the East Midlands Combined County Authority. His work spans major transport investment programmes, financial planning, governance and strategic decision-making. Through these roles, he has helped organisations assess affordability, manage resources responsibly and translate ambitious plans into deliverable outcomes. This experience informs the practical perspective he brings to mentoring: sound judgement, professional excellence and accountability matter alongside aspiration.
An alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Dapo served as Speaker of the Student Representative Council from 2002 to 2004. His involvement in student leadership provided an early foundation in representation, responsibility and service—principles that continue to shape his approach to leadership. He has also served as a primary school governor in the United Kingdom, contributing to educational governance and community development.
Christian faith is central to Dapo’s life and his vision for Generation Next. Through his leadership of the Young Adults fellowship at Hebron Christian Faith Church in Coventry, he has supported young people through teaching, mentoring and conversations about faith, relationships, personal responsibility and career development. These experiences have reinforced his belief in the value of consistent guidance as young adults navigate important life decisions.
Through Generation Next, Dapo seeks to connect students and graduates with experienced professionals, business leaders and Christian mentors. His vision is to help raise a generation whose competence is matched by integrity: people equipped to build fulfilling careers, nurture healthy relationships and contribute responsibly to their communities and nation.
Dapo is married to Tola, who serves alongside him as joint convener of Generation Next. They have two children and bring their shared experience of family life, professional work and Christian service to the initiative.
